Information Fanyello processes
- Account and profile: first and last name, birthday, email address, username, account creation and last sign-in times, optional profile photo, avatar choices, password hash, recovery-code hash, and session identifiers. Fanyello does not store readable passwords or recovery codes.
- Content and activity: direct and group messages, voice messages, photo captions and photo payloads (including unopened disappearing photos and regular photos kept in the conversation), short videos, their poster images and captions, comments, reactions, follows, friendships, group chats and their members, pinned and forwarded messages, profile statuses, Pins, message timestamps, photo-open status, device-reported screenshot receipts, blocks, reports you choose to submit, and support requests you send from the app. It also includes Feed posts and their photos, clips, polls, places, tags and comments, albums, Saved folders, Communities you join, events you create and your Going, Maybe or Can’t go answers, game moves in chats, and watch-party invites.
- Calls: a record of who called whom, when, whether it was answered, and how long it lasted. Fanyello does not record or store the audio or video of a call.
- Location: current latitude, longitude, approximate accuracy, sharing time, and expiration time only after you choose to share from the Map tab.
- Device and service data: push notification tokens and choices (including the separate token that lets an incoming call ring your iPhone), plus network information such as IP address that the hosting provider may process for service logs, rate limiting, and abuse prevention. When the app runs into an error or crashes, it sends a short report so we can fix it: the error message, where in the app’s code it happened, which screen was open, the app version and the iPhone’s system version, linked to your account. Reports are deleted after 30 days without a repeat. If you add an event to your calendar, Fanyello asks for add-only access: it can create that one entry but can never read your calendar.
Signing up
To create an account you give your first and last name, birthday, email address, username and a password, and you agree to the Terms of Service. We keep the date and version of the terms you agreed to. Your birthday is used to confirm you are at least 13 and to apply extra protections to members under 18 (for example, posts default to friends-only); it is never shown to other members except as a birthday reminder to friends (month and day only), which you can turn off.
How information is used
We use this information to run accounts and profiles, confirm age eligibility, deliver messages and videos, show the content you choose to share, send requested notifications, prepare member analytics, share an optional location with specific friends, respond to reports, prevent abuse, and fix problems.
Calls
Voice and video calls are set up through the Fanyello service, but the audio and video travel directly between the two phones over an encrypted connection (WebRTC). When phones cannot reach each other directly, Cloudflare relays the still-encrypted stream; the relay cannot read it. An incoming call is delivered through Apple’s push service so it can ring like a regular phone call. Only accepted friends can call you.
Going live and watching together
When you go live, your camera and microphone stream to the friends you choose (all friends or close friends) through the same encrypted relay used for group calls, for up to an hour. Nothing is recorded: comments and reactions are deleted when the live ends, and only your own summary numbers (how many people watched and reacted) are kept, for one day. Watching together keeps everyone’s playback of an existing video in step; the reactions and chat lines in a watch party are only shown to the people in it.
Family link
A parent or guardian (18 or older) and a teen (13 to 17) who are friends on Fanyello can choose to link. The adult can see the teen’s safety settings only: account privacy, who can comment, quiet hours, the take-a-break reminder, how many devices are signed in, and counts of recent blocks and reports, never names or content. The adult never sees the teen’s messages, posts, searches, who they talk to or where they are. The adult can ask for a safer setting, and nothing changes unless the teen agrees on their own phone. Either person can end the link at any time.
Finding friends from contacts
If you choose “Find friends from contacts,” the app reads the email addresses in your phone’s contacts, scrambles each one on your phone (a SHA-256 hash), and sends only those hashes to Fanyello to compare with members who have chosen to be discoverable by email. Names, phone numbers and the addresses themselves never leave your phone, and the hashes are not stored.
Who can see your content
Signed-in members can search for profiles and see basic profile details. Statuses and featured profile content have audience choices. Videos posted to Discover can be seen by other signed-in members; videos posted to Friends are limited to accepted friends. Direct messages and shared locations are available only to the people involved. You choose which friend can see each location share.
Owner access
The Fanyello owner can access an account dashboard containing member names, email addresses, usernames, birthdays, ages, account creation times, last sign-in times, account status, and activity totals, and an inbox of the support requests members send from the app. The dashboard does not provide passwords, recovery codes, ordinary private message contents, push tokens, or location history. Reported messages and videos are placed in a moderation queue with details needed for review. When a photo is reported, a copy of that photo is attached to the report so it can be reviewed. The copy is erased as soon as the report is resolved or dismissed, and in every case within 48 hours. Photos that are not reported are never shown in the dashboard. The owner can suspend or restore a member account and keeps a history of those actions.
Safety tools
Blocking removes the friendship and stops messages, friend requests, and location sharing between the two accounts. Unblocking does not restore the friendship. Fanyello also checks message text and photo captions for a small set of serious safety risks. When the filter rejects content, the service keeps the sender, time, content type, and reason code for moderation. It does not keep the rejected text.
Photo and message behavior
When sending a photo, you choose whether it stays in the conversation or disappears after being viewed. A disappearing photo that is not opened is removed from the active service after 24 hours; when it is opened, the server removes its active copy and sends it to the receiving phone, and it stays open for 5, 10, or 15 seconds. A regular (non-disappearing) photo stays available in the conversation like any other message, viewable anytime, until it is deleted or the account is deleted. Text messages remain until they are deleted or the account is deleted. Profile statuses expire after 24 hours. Videos remain until removed or the account is deleted. Device and provider backups may keep older copies for a limited time, so a disappearing photo cannot promise complete erasure.
Sharing and service providers
Fanyello uses Cloudflare to host and protect the service and to relay calls when needed. Cloudflare may process data to provide its infrastructure and security services. Photos, voice messages, files and short videos are stored, encrypted, with Cloudflare. GIF search is provided by GIPHY (or Tenor, from Google), which receives your search words but not who you are; the GIFs you see load from their servers. When you translate a message, its text is sent to Google Translate, without your name or account. When a message contains a link, Fanyello’s server fetches that page to show a preview, and the preview picture loads from that website. Emails (welcome, sign-in alerts, data exports) and support requests go through Resend. Push notifications go through Apple and Expo’s push services, and include a preview of the message unless you turn previews off in Settings. Fanyello does not sell personal information, serve targeted advertising, or use cross-app tracking.
Security
The app uses HTTPS in transit, salted password hashing, limited sessions, rate limits, and encrypted message storage. Calls are encrypted between the two phones. Messages are not end-to-end encrypted: the service can process message content to deliver it.
Places for automatic statuses
If you save a place (like Home or Gym) so your status changes when you arrive, its name, map position and size are stored with your account so your other devices can use it. Your phone detects arriving and leaving by itself and tells Fanyello only which saved place it was. You can delete a place at any time, and all of them are deleted with your account.
Location
Fanyello first requests foreground location access after you tap a sharing choice for a friend, from their chat settings or the Map tab. Sharing is chosen one friend at a time. Timed sharing sends your position to that friend for 15 minutes, 1 hour, or 8 hours. If you choose “Share live until I stop,” the app separately asks for background location access and updates the position while the app is in the background. You can stop sharing with each friend from the Map tab. Live sharing also stops if iOS force closes the app, and the server removes a live position if updates stop for two hours. Shared positions are encrypted in storage.
Deleting an account
A signed-in user can open You → Settings and choose “Delete account and conversation.” After confirming the current password, Fanyello removes the account credentials, profile photo, avatar, shared locations, posts and videos, your direct conversations, and associated social connections. Messages you sent in group chats are removed as well. Backups age out within 30 days. We may keep limited records longer when the law requires it or to investigate a safety report (for example, a report you were part of).
Age
Fanyello is for people age 13 and older. A birthday is required when an account is created, and the service rejects signup when the person is under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13; if we learn that an account belongs to a child under 13, we delete it. A parent who believes their child under 13 has an account can contact support@fanyello.com.
Safety and the law
We may keep and share information with law enforcement or the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) when the law requires it, or when we believe in good faith it is needed to protect someone from serious harm, including reports of child sexual exploitation, which U.S. law requires us to make.
Your choices and rights
You can see and change your profile and account details in the app, download a copy of your data by contacting us, turn off location sharing, contact discovery and notifications at any time, and delete your account in Settings. Depending on where you live (for example, California or the European Union), you may have rights to access, correct, delete or move your information, and to object to some uses. To make a request, email support@fanyello.com from your account’s email address. We answer within 30 days and never charge for it. Fanyello does not sell or “share” personal information for advertising.
